The Cat’s Gallery of Feline Beauty

a big meowThe lovely Sam of Becks & Posh (who doesn’t mention cats nearly often enough) has posted a link to a new Flickr toy over at Food Blog S’cool and ponders whether this toy works with blogging software other than Blogger.

Well, viola!

My Gallery of Feline Beauty!

The Flickr slideshow tool can be found here and includes more detailed instructions in the comments below.

A quick note about my (stunning) Gallery of (breathtaking) Feline (as if there were any other kind) Beauty: Obviously, I have carefully removed all the non-feline photos from this slideshow. (Seriously, would you expect otherwise?) How did I do it? Thusly:

I entered my — okay, my female captor’s — Flickr ID number (the clump of digits that appears at the end of her flickr URL) and then I followed this up with the code &set_id= and then followed that up with the clump of numbers that appears at the end my own personal photo set URL.

In other words,

www.flickr.com/photos/belly-timber/sets/980512/ <--- those numbers, there.

Where does this stuff go? Just find the spot in the slideshow code that says XXXXXXXX@NXX and dump it in.

Makes sense? Oh, sure. What do you think I am, a tech geek? I’m a freakin’ cat. Just go visit the page. You’ll get it.

  1. But I am the dog girl. Fred is the supercat the marvellous in our household.
I am glad you got it to work too. I am wondering if it is possible to do it for a flickr group as opposed to a group. I should try that next.

ps i did blog mice once. does it not count if they were made from sugar?

  2. If they’re tasty, of course they count!

PS: My captor says she’s about to post stuff relating to your group question over on Food Blog S’cool. :-)

  3. Well, see, Mrs D, you could have been making salad dressing!
But no-o-o. You had to spend your time making a groovy slide show that has me so jealous I’m searching through my crappy photos now to see if I have anything that’d make sense.
    (Yay Sam.)

  4. Hahahahahah!

Would you believe I honest-to-god had a big spinach salad this evening with a big honkin’ bottle of Brianna’s Honey Mustard right there on the table. Yes, I have my priorities.

  6. any technology that is used to advance the feline cause is AOK with me ;)

  7. Beautiful pictures, what kind of camera do you use?

  8. I’ll be working on the “meow” thing for next week, Clare!

Thanks, Jory! I use a Minolta Dimage 404. It’ll be 4 years old in August — which is probably about 80 in digital camera years!

Oops — almost forgot to add: The first photo and all the black and white photos are pre-digital, taken with my very old (in real years this time) 35mm Nikon FM.

  9. The cat and pals look great as ever. Such an IT savvy kitty to get the flickr slide show working.

  10. I enjoyed it very much, they look so sweet!

  11. hi there…did as u said but either page not found or am getting someone leses pic???????????

  12. esther45c,
there’s detailed instructions in the comments over where the original code is here. The first time I tried doing this with anything other than my Flickr IDnumber and the Cat’s set number, I got other people’s pictures because I wasn’t careful enough about entering the right numbers in the right places & I discovered you can’t substitute a set or ID name for a set or ID number. Also, the photos need to be listed as “public” on Flickr, or it won’t work. To help any further, I’d have to see the code you typed in & the Flickr set you’re trying to feature, to see where the error is. (Otherwise it’s all just guessing!)

  13. Amazing cat pictures. I love the close ups playing with the paper ball.
