Weekend Cat Blogging: Too Hot?
Try living with fur.
Seriously, people. You think you have it bad? How about a day in this heat as a tabby.
I know, I know, we’re all miserable.
Thing is, it’s only going to get worse.
Unless we do something about it.
For starters, get your human asses over to the nearest (air-conditioned) theater and see An Inconvenient Truth.
Seriously. I’ve got furry friends who can’t find any freakin’ ice flows to live on and this is pissing me off.
And if you think Angry Cat is bad news when she’s angry…
I hear Mother Nature’s got one hell of a set of claws.

Cranky’s reading *two* books on climate change, and we is doomded. That’s what the experts say.

Hey CC, send Cranky over this way with book recommendations. Everyone should be reading up on this scary shit. As Al sez, we have entered a period of consequences. No more waiting for generation next to fix things.

We’re sitting in a 90º room with fans in every window, at 9:15 p.m. Does not look good.
Reading Field Notes from a Catastrophe by Elizabeth Kolbert (a look at recent climate change) and The Winds of Change by Eugene Linden (the mechanics of climate change and how it has felled past civilizations).
It could happen faster than you — er, we — realize.
Have a nice, hot day!

Thank you, Cranky! I’m adding these to my to-read stack. The Linden book sounds like a good follow-up to Jared Diamond.

I feel so bad for my babies with all their fur and then I think, eh, your relative is the puma, you’re like hot climates, and then I don’t feel so bad.

No wonder Angry Cat is angry. With this heatwave/climate change which cat isn’t?
I love your tabby cat; she’s such a cutie…

Poor Cat! My kitties also sympathise with u as they get this hot weather all yr round. Only way to tackle is to persuade yr owners to invest in air conditioning!
July 23rd, 2006 at 11:04 am
Aren’t we contributing to global warming with our air conditioned cars, homes and offices???
July 23rd, 2006 at 11:35 am
JL: right you are. Here’s a page on ways to cool your house naturally. We don’t have air conditioning here at all and I rely on the old standby of opening doors to get a cross breeze going. That, or dunking my head under the sink tap!
(That said, if one way to get out of the heat is to go to an air-conditioned theater to see Al Gore’s movie, then I’m all for that!)
Stacey, I think our pooch would agree with you and point out that she (as a fluffy part malamute) is far more miserable in this heat than the cat.

Well I am sure scared of those claws
Do you think that we could hire Mrs Cat out to threaten people and countries? You are polluting oh no polluter pay system it is the cats revenge system
Yes I did way to much study this weekend my brain is well fried

Those are some claws!! And I love that nose. Tabby’s are my favorite kind of cat.
July 25th, 2006 at 11:13 pm
Excellent scheme, Clare, though I think it would be even more effective if we could find an angry Polar Bear to do a little threatening. I can think of a few politicians I’d like to see face off vs a Polar bear. Or two. Or three.
Thanks, Sher! She does have an awfully photogenic nose, I must say!

Wow - those are stunning kitty photos!! I often feel sorry for our neighbourhood cats here when the temperatures hit 30C - you see them skulking from shay patch to shady patch and having a little sit-down in each ;-)

Ah, you’re so right!
My cat Romeo (who is kind of, OK very…) BIG, has it as well quite difficult with this weather…
Although he appears pretty happy now, lying the entire day for the fan…
Like your blog!; the combination food + cat is really my thing. :)
I myself have just started my own foodblog, hope you’ll check it sometimes!

Jeanne, I’m afraid to do the math to see just how hot 30c is.
Julia, we just met a 16 lb cat last weekend. Very impressive fellow, but probably not a fan of the heat at all. I just peeked at your blog. Mmmmm…. scones!
